English military officer, some time stationed in Canada.  Address: 23 Tonbridge Place/8 Timmans Gardens. London directories, 1857-1859, do not list an A. Mitchell or and Andrew Mitchell at either of these addresses; they do list a Miss Mitchell at 29 Tonbridge place.

Mitchell contributed to Once a Week, February 4 1860, the signed article "A Night on the Ice", recounting a dangerous adventure that befell him in Canada soon after he had arrived there from England; he stated that no experience had left a deeper impression on his mind, though since that time "the chances of a soldier's life have brought me through many adventures".
