Since the beginnings of its development in 2006, Dickens Journals Online has been based at The University of Buckingham, which provides office space (limited but comfortable), facilities, and collegiate support for different strands of the project, for all of which we are extremely grateful. The University provides an ideal venue for workshops and evening lectures connected with our work, and hosted our four-day launch conference in March 2012, 'Charles Dickens and the Mid-Victorian Press (1850-1870).'
The University of Buckingham is the only independent university in the UK with a Royal Charter, and is probably the smallest, with just under 2,000 students. Honours degrees are achieved in two intensive years of study. Class sizes are small, with a student:academic staff ratio of 8.9:1.
